One of the things that my students and clients always want is to be able to trust themselves.
It seems like that should be automatic, but unfortunately, it’s not.
Humans are easily conditioned to believe and not believe things… and to be easily confused.
We are taught that logic is the only thing we should be using to make decisions — anything else makes your decision come from an irrational place.
But those who tout that advice have it wrong. All wrong.
Because our minds are fickle and they will easily abandon us at the drop of a hat, so it’s trusting your mind that gets you in trouble in the first place.
But there’s one extra sense we have that tells us the absolute truth EVERY. TIME.
So that we know what is a yes for us, and what is a no.
So that we know what is right for us, and what is wrong.
Use this to make your decisions from now on and you’ll never doubt yourself again.
What is this all-powerful extra sense that we have?
It’s our bodies.
Your body is like a highly sensitive radar.
It knows the right answers to your decisions. Every one of them.
And it will tell you, easily and willingly, if you know how to listen.
Therein lies the trick to this: you have to know how to listen to what your body is saying.
So I want to share with you a little exercise to help you start tuning in to your truth so that you can learn to never doubt yourself again.
Find Your Yes + No
The easiest way to learn to make unshakable decisions so that you never doubt yourself again is to find out what your ‘yes’ and ’no’ answers are in your body.
And the easiest way to learn that is to practice making yes and no decisions and feeling what your body says about it.
Let me give you an example.
One time I wanted to buy a pretty cover for my card reading table, and I found these gorgeous tie dyed fabrics.
I found a purple and orange swirly one that was pretty and it matched my brand colors at the time.
And then I found a swirly blue and green one that made me feel #allthethings when I held it.
My mind said I should get the purple and orange one because it matched my brand, but my heart loved the blue and green one that matched nothing else I owned.
That was my first clue – head said one thing, heart said the other – but the head is strong and made a strong argument against getting the one that didn’t make sense.
I must have stood there for 30 minutes trying to decide which one to buy.
And then I thought I’m going to pretend I’m saying yes to one of these and no to the other and I’ll see how that feels. And then I’ll try it the other way.
So I put the blue & green one down and said “I’m buying the purple and orange one” and I tuned in to see how that felt.
Ya know when you make the wrong decision? How it just feels like dread in your body? Ugh. No thanks.
That’s what it felt like when I chose the one my head said was the right one.
So I put that one down, picked up the other one and said to myself “I’m buying the green and blue one” and I tuned in.
It was like instant relief!
I could feel the pressure release in my solar plexus and my heart relaxed.
I knew that one was the right decision even though it didn’t make logical sense.
See what I mean? My body told me the right answer FOR ME and it didn’t have to make sense.
My NO felt heavy, constricting, and like dread in my gut.
While my YES felt expansive and freeing in my gut.
By the way, to this day (about 7 years later) I still LOVE that swirly blue & green table cloth.
So that’s how you can practice making rock-solid decisions and never doubt yourself again!
And you can practice this with any decision you have. Start small.
What brand or flavor of soup do you want to buy?
Which pair of shoes do you want?
What do you want to wear to that job interview or that party or to be on a video conference?
What color lipstick do you want to wear?
Each time you have to choose between multiple options, use this method.
Pretend you’re saying YES to one option (which means you’re saying NO to the rest) and see what it feels like in your body.
You know what feels right/wrong or good/bad or yes/no in your body already, so now it’s time to get intentional about it and learn to use it as a powerful intuitive tool.
When you master this, you will truly never doubt yourself again!
